Gynaecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)

Gynaecomastia is a common condition in which men develop excess glandular breast tissue, excess fat in the breasts, or a combination of both.

Before Procedure

At the initial consultation, Dr Moko will listen to your concerns, obtain a thorough medical history and physical exam. She will give you details of the operation suitable for you, as well as what to expect after surgery and the possible risks.

Procedure

You will be placed under general anaesthesia. Dr Moko infiltrates fluid with local anaesthetic and adrenaline into the breasts to reduce bleeding and to provide pain relief when you wake up. The fat is reduced with liposuction and the breast tissue is pulled out through small incisions at the sides of the chest. Occasionally tissue is removed through an incision under the nipple. Longer scars on the chest will be required if there is excess loose skin.

Procedure

You can leave hospital the day of the operation. You will be instructed to wear a pressure vest to assist with healing. You should be able to return to work after 1 week and strenuous exercise after 6 weeks.
